Residential trip to France and Belgium

On 12th February we saw the majority of our students set off bright and early, heading for Folkestone by coach. The focus of this year’s trip was to develop cultural and historical understanding of aspects of WW1 and France. During the visit, the students visited Ypres, Bruges, Lochanagar Crater and Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. Alongside visiting sites of historical importance, they also had some personal time to experience the culture of both Ypres and Bruges and build bonds with other students.

One of the most powerful excursions was to the Newfoundland Park. The students heard of the harrowing battles and valiant efforts of the soldiers from this Canadian province. As a school, we laid a wreath in memorial at Thiepval, where thousands of names of lost soldiers are commemorated. A though provoking and memorable trip.
